Welch Wisehart Scholarship Recipient

“Hello! My name is Miranda Howell. I am a senior studying psychology with an emphasis in counseling at Welch College. This year, I was chosen as a recipient of the Dr. Mary R. Wisehart Scholarship. I am extremely grateful to be given this scholarship! I wanted to take this opportunity to tell the Women Nationally Active for Christ a little bit about myself and to express my thanks.

When I am not at school, I live with my parents and three siblings in the small town of Chipley, Florida. My dad is a pastor at our local church, and my whole family is very active in our church and community. Both of my parents attended Welch or, as they knew it then, the Free Will Baptist College. As I was growing up, I heard countless stories about my parents’ experiences at the college and the many people that impacted their lives in such a positive way. I knew from a fairly young age that I wanted to attend Welch as well. This desire continued through my years in high school. After attending Welcome Days on the West End campus, I knew Welch was where God was calling me to spend the next four years of my life.

I am enrolled in the psychology program, and I absolutely love all the information I have learned so far. I plan to continue my education in this area after I graduate by obtaining my master’s degree in marriage and family therapy. While I am still seeking the Lord’s direction in my life, I would love to work in the field of adoption counseling. I also plan to use my degree to volunteer in my local church in any way that I can. I greatly treasure the time I have spent at Welch College and am excited to see what my remaining semesters here hold.

Over the last three years, I have been able to work on campus to pay my way through school. However, without the extra support of scholarships given through the college, I would have struggled financially. I am extremely thankful for all the supporters who have faithfully given to Welch for many years. Scholarships funded by individuals and groups like the Women Nationally Active for Christ have made it possible for me to continue my education here at Welch College. Thank you so very much for your generosity! Your support of Welch is making a huge difference for students like me.”
