“October has been a month focused on community service at Randall University. Recently, we were able to partner with GoFresh to serve as a distribution site to people in our area. A produce provider out of Tulsa, GoFresh has been teaming up with the federal government to get fresh food into the hands of people all across the country. Any family in need was able to receive a food box and milk completely free. Food boxes included meat, dairy products, fruits, and vegetables.
Every Wednesday in October, a 53’ semi-trailer loaded with food would pull into one of our parking lots, and then our students and staff would volunteer to hand out the contents to a continuous line of cars. The recipients’ level of appreciation was astounding.
“Thank you for sharing with me about this opportunity. I was able to get chicken nuggets, hotdogs, cheese, sour cream, cottage cheese, apples, potatoes, and cucumbers. They also gave me 4 gallons of milk! Such a blessing!” said Angel, mother of four. Because of our mission, community service has always been taught at our institution, but with so many changes taking place in the community due to COVID-19, our methods this semester have had to adjust. This new opportunity enabled us to still serve our neighbors in a new way.
Randall is grateful for every opportunity we have to share Jesus with our community. Each week, the words of Christ in Matthew 25:40 echoed in my mind, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” Praise God that we were able to pass out nearly 5,000 food boxes!”
