It’s finally here, the 104 Annual Meeting of the Texas State Association of Free Will Baptists!
This year we are in Huntsville, where the Pastor Michael Hunt and the good folks at Pine Prairie Church are our gracious hosts.
General Board Meeting
Things get started Wednesday morning at 9:00 a.m. with the General Board Meeting. This will be held in the meeting room at the Hampton Inn & Suites.
Emergency Preparedness Seminar
If you are already in town, make plans to attend the ETC Seminar at Pine Prairie at 1:30. The theme of this year’s seminar is Emergency Preparedness, led by Eric Henderson. Eric is supervisor of the Crime Scene Unit at the Bryan Police Department and member of Fellowship Church in Bryan. He will share, based on his experience in his career in law enforcement, information that churches can use to improve their ability to prevent some incidents from taking place or, when an incident does occur, to reduce its potential severity. Some of the topics to be covered in this workshop include: building security, protection of children, appropriate methods for observing suspicious behavior, and developing an action plan for incidents and assigning responsibilities.
Hamburger Supper
Don’t worry about supper plans because TWAC is providing a hamburger supper at Pine Prairie. They are calling it “Meat and Greet,” and it promises to be a great time of food and fellowship. That willl begin at 5:00 p.m.
Registration
The registration table opens at 6:00 p.m., and the convention offically begins with the 7:00 p.m. worship service.
Worship Service
Our keynote speaker this year is Dr. Eddie Moody, pastor of Tippet’s Chapel in Clayton, North Carolina. He is a counselor, professor, and author of First Aid for Emotional Hurts and Surviving Culture.
The theme of this year’s conference is “First Aid for a Hurting World.”
This past year has seen a lot of tragedy in the form of violent acts and natural disasters. The country has mourned together after the horrible Las Vegas massacre and the Parkland school shooting. Sadly, churches have not been immune, as we have seen congregations endure shootings in Tennessee and here in Texas. Additionally, the Houston area was devastated by Hurricane Harvey, and fires have destroyed so much in California.
Dr. Moody’s experience as a pastor and counselor will guide us through the Scriptures to help us be strong and effective helpers to our neighbors.
