The annual state meeting just wrapped up yesterday. That’s pretty incredible to see that these meetings have been going on for one hundred and nine years. This year I was particularly encouraged and challenged in my preaching from the words of Pastor Cory Thompson. Cory did a fantastic job of preaching and teaching on the absolute necessity of making biblical preaching the core of what the church should be about. Not just preaching or sprinkling in verses here and there, but biblical, expositional, and exegetical preaching. I was profoundly impacted and pushed to go deeper. In fact, I don’t anyone else who wouldn’t express the same.
These meetings have been around for one hundred and nine years. No doubt there have been many issues throughout the years that our churches and pastors have had to trudge through. Our current time is no different. One of the issues we see spreading like gangrene is the low view of the bible and the lack of proper biblical preparation for preaching. The results are a growing number of our society either treating God and His words with extreme skepticism, or with a progressive mindset, considering it to be optional at best. Could this be why we are witnessing one of the largest and most celebrated times of apostasy? Proverbs 29:18 is especially relevant for us to remember. “Where there is no revelation, people cast off restraint.”
